JAPANESE DUNEDIN OTARU ABOUT US FAQ

Introduction

The idea to build this web site came from our realisation that information concerning the Dunedin-Otaru Sister City Relationship was not available on the World Wide Web. We felt that since we were living in Otaru and we both had lived in Dunedin we were in a unique position to help in this area.

We contacted both the Dunedin and Otaru City Councils and our idea was greeted with great enthusiasm. From the outset we wanted the web site to be on line by Otaru Week for Dunedin's 150th celebrations, giving us only four weeks to complete this project.

Although it has been a very stressful four weeks, it would have been a more difficult task if not for the kind assistance we received from friends in both Dunedin and Otaru.

Acknowledgements

In particular we would like to thank the following people;

Ryoei Aoki(wi) for his late nights working on the web site, as well as his outstanding effort with the translation work.

Brent Wilson of the DCC for his enthusiasm from the start and also for providing us with all the information regarding Dunedin that we needed.

Keiko Asakawa from Otaru University. We were delighted that Keiko was so willing to contribute to the translation and her "genki" spirit provided us with a extra boost.

Naoko Nakamoto. Although Naoko became involved late in the fray, her excellent translation of the Otaru City profile was very timely.

While we have at times wanted to tear our hair out while doing this we have enjoyed the challenges that this project has brought us and have been glad to have the opportunity to do this. Thank you for stopping by

Keiko Asakawa

Hello! My name is Keiko Asakawa. I am a graduate student in Otaru University of Commerce and majoring business management. Now I am absent from Otaru U of C and doing economics at University of Alberta (Canada) as a scholarship student. I've been in Canada for one and a half years, so far.

When I was an undergraduate student in Otaru U of C, I studied management at University of Otago (Dunedin) as an exchange student. 10 months' stay in Dunedin is one of wonderful memories of my school life. Therefore, I am really happy to participate in the sister-city home page project. Hope that many people would access this page and have more understanding between the two cities!
